Vangviang Organic Farm

Vangviang Organic Farm is involved in different projects. Their objective is to show that organics products can be profitable and healthy for people. Using the know-how of organic methods they focus on mulberry production to create tea, wine and shake. Their second goal is the creation of silk from the breed of domestic silkworm, where they use the mulberry leaves to feed the worm. With the profits from the farm, they support and educate local villagers through English classes, a community center and financing a school bus.

The organization encourages visitors to participate in the operation of the farm and provide an opportunity for those who wish to learn more about organic farming. They provide accommodation, restaurants and travel commodities.

Lao Mountain Coffee

Lao Mountain CoffeeLao Mountain Coffee is a coffee roasted company using only Lao grown beans from the Bolaven plateau. They work directly with farmers and farmer groups to assure that the beans are processed according to specialty coffee standards. They own a varied selection of coffee beans. The organization has developed a relationship with the Jhai Coffee Farmer Cooperative, a fair trade certified that guarantee their farmers to receive all of the income generated by their coffee.

Xao BanXao Ban is a self supported cooperative group of housewives founded in 2003 in Vientiane. Their politic is to remain a neighborhood cooperative increasing local employment and to differentiate from factories. They produce dairy products, natural forest honey, processed food, organic vegetables and fruits, organic compost, ornamental plants and have an advisory local company service on micro irrigation system. They sell locally and to others villages trough retail supermarkets in the city giving consumers a healthy solution.

Sustainable Agriculture ForumThe Sustainable Agriculture Forum broke ground and trends in 1991. Pioneer in sustainable agriculture development in Lao PDR’s, they promote and support by creating a network to exchange experiences and bring together interested people in this area, such as farmer’s organizations, impoverished communities, minority groups with an emphasis on women and ethnic people.

Their preoccupation is focused on upholding and incorporating the highest of standards by implementing consistent quality monitoring with its members. They organize also a variety of workshops, seminars, conferences and specialized training programs each targeting specific areas of concern and methodology, agricultural regions and conditions, as well focus groups including poverty affected communities, women, ethnic minorities and youth.

Lao Farmers ProductParticipating in the fair trade in Lao PDR since 1996, Lao Farmers Product helps the little Lao farmers to found outlets, by buying their production at a fair price. Today, the organization has got six workshops of production spread over five provinces of the country and exports jams, juices, fruit pastes, rice and tea to the networks of fair trade in Europe and Lao.

Within the framework of equitable and interdependent tourism, they also organize visits of their company, meeting with producers for an enriching experiment and understand the stakes of fair trade in Lao.

Sinouk Cafe LaoSinouk Café Lao is a producer since 1993 on the international market. Their goal is to promote green beans coffee through a quality label rather than producing in quantity. Therefore, they support Lao farmers by the intermediate of NGO’s to produce organic green beans and select carefully the plantation for their production. The challenge is to make known the quality of the Lao coffee to the population and worldwide, for this reason it is also known as a coffee that “we offer”. Certification Alliance

Certification AllianceIn March 2007, Organic Agriculture Certification Thailand (ACT) and Instituto per la Certificazione Etica and Ambientale (ICEA) organized a seminar to explore options for a regional collaboration in certification. This lead in a common trade name Certification Alliance, aiming to offer a low cost one stop service for organic producers seeking international certifications.

By registering with a service unit, it facilitates the multiple certifications process required by operators for export markets. It offers also the opportunity to mutually share, lean and build competency in inspection and certification, enhancing each other’s service performance to secure integrity in the organic supply chain.

Thevada Café

Thevada Cafe logoThevada Café is a commercial brand name of Arabica Typica Coffee from Katouad, Champasack province, south of Laos. Arabica typical coffee in Katouad has been planted in a cool climate, with and fertile soil without chemical fertilizer or pesticide input. Katouad coffee growers have a unique production chain "from tree to cup" and direct links to local, international buyers and consumers. To satisfy coffee drinkers, Thevada has a roasting and testing unit. Thevada Café means "angel of coffee" and it is considered a premium coffee. It provides three types of roasted Thevada Café: light, medium and strong roasted coffee. They are now available in local markets or at the Katouad Café shop.
