Lao farmers have long been practicing traditional farming using indigenous
knowledge of agro-ecology, and such practices largely continue to exist and
the knowledge related to sustainable farming remains. This type of farming
does not use any chemical fertilizers or pesticides and can therefore be
considered as "organic by default" rather than "organic by decision" (a more
market oriented approach).

PROFIL’s mission is to empower Lao producers, government, consumers and companies to make sustainable improvements to the environment, the Lao economy and human health through organic agriculture. PROFIL’s institutional capacity building, marketing, technical assistance and knowledge management activities will contribute to efficient organic value chains, will be participatory, inclusive and innovative, and will contribute to increased equality, fairness and transparency.
